Bill Cosby Begins Pre-Trial Hearing In Sex Assault Case. idotob.com
Bill Cosby returned to a Pennsylvania courthouse on Tuesday for the first time since his lawyers’ failed effort to have the sexual assault charges against the comedian thrown out.
Striding past dozens of television news cameras, Cosby, 78, headed to the courtroom where prosecutors in Montgomery County are expected to outline some of the evidence against him.
Before being hit by a wave of sex assault allegations, Cosby had been one of the most beloved U.S. entertainers.
A heavy police presence was aimed at keeping order outside the courthouse in Norristown. Tuesday’s preliminary hearing will focus on the only allegation that has led to criminal charges, that Cosby in 2004 drugged and assaulted Andrea Constand, a former basketball coach at his Temple University alma mater.

Cosby has denied ever assaulting anyone and has portrayed his encounter with Constand as consensual.
The vast majority of the sexual assault accusations by about 50 women dating back to the 1960s are too old to be the subject of criminal prosecution. Pennsylvania prosecutors leveled their charges in December, days before the statute of limitations was to expire.
Several cases are the subject of civil lawsuits, in which victims say Cosby libeled them when he accused them of lying about the incidents.
The accusations have destroyed Cosby‘s reputation, which he built during years of family-friendly comedy.
Last month, an appeals court rejected a bid from Cosby‘s lawyers to have the criminal case dismissed because of what they described as a non-prosecution agreement he struck with a former Montgomery County district attorney a decade ago.

The former prosecutor, Bruce Castor, has said he agreed not to press charges in exchange for Cosby‘s testimony in a civil lawsuit filed by Constand.
But current prosecutors questioned Castor’s testimony, saying there was no written evidence of such a deal. They also said Castor did not have the legal authority to prohibit his successors from bringing charges in the future.

Senator Otunba Dino Melaye, on Sunday stunned the congregation at the Apostolic Church Nigeria, Oke-Ayo (Iluafon) Assembly in his home town, Ayetero-Gbede, Kogi State, when he narrated how he was tempted to seek diabolical means during preparations for the 2015 general election.
He rolled on the floor of the church, wept and thanked God for His mercy to the admiration of the congregation.
According to him,
“When I was contesting election, some people, among them my supporters, came with various advises. In fact, somebody said that I should go to the seven local government areas and fetch the soil. He said that was the way to my victory and I laughed at his ignorance. I rejected it because I’ve vowed that I will never seek diabolical means to achieve power. It is good to serve God,” he said.

Ronaldo confident of Champions League glory despite injury scare
Cristiano Ronaldo played down fears over his fitness ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League final against Atletico Madrid on Saturday after the three-time World Player of the Year limped off towards the end of training on Tuesday.

“I am fine. I had a little problem in training, a dead leg as they say here, but tomorrow or the next day I will be fine,” he said.

Ronaldo will be aiming to break his own record of 17 Champions League goals in a season in Milan having already netted 16 in the competition so far this campaign.

His 17th two years ago came in the final against Atletico as Real ran out 4-1 winners after extra-time.

“It would be nice to equal or even pass the record, but I am not obsessed with that because the most important thing is to win,” he added.

And Ronaldo insisted Real will show they are the kings of the Spanish capital once more despite winning just once in 10 games against Atletico since lifting their 10th European Cup in Lisbon.

“We will see who is the best. I am positive. I think Real are better than Atletico, but we have to show it on the pitch.”

To do so Real must break down a rock solid Atletico defence that has kept 35 clean sheets in 56 games this season, including shutouts at home to Barcelona and Bayern Munich in dumping the Spanish and German champions out at the quarter-final and semi-final stages respectively.

Atletico also managed a 1-0 win at Real’s Santiago Bernabeu to inflict Real coach Zinedine Zidane’s only La Liga defeat in four months in charge when the sides last met in February.

“Atletico always play the same way. We know there will be very few opportunities because they all play behind the ball,” continued Ronaldo.

“It is no coincidence that Barca and Bayern couldn’t score many goals against them.”

Ronaldo has been dogged by a persistent thigh injury which forced him to miss three games last month.

He also came off at half-time of Real’s final La Liga game of the season — having scored twice in the first-half to take his tally for the season to 51 — at Deportivo la Coruna 10 days ago.

Zidane confirmed Ronaldo also didn’t play in a practice match on Saturday as a precaution, but expects him to be fully fit for the final.

“There will be no problem. He felt something on Saturday when we had a game between us and he didn’t play as a precaution,” said Zidane.

“He will be ready for Saturday and I think we are in good shape physically.”

However, there isn’t such good news for French defender Raphael Varane as Zidane confirmed he will miss Saturday’s final and his participation at Euro 2016 is now in jeopardy due to a hamstring injury.

Varane was unlikely to start at the San Siro in any case with captain Sergio Ramos and Pepe Zidane’s preferred central defensive partnership.

An 11th European Cup would cap a sensational start to Zidane’s senior management career having turned around Real’s fortunes with 21 wins from 26 games since replacing the sacked Rafael Benitez in January.

“I think everybody feels the fun comes back a little bit when he arrived,” said Real midfielder Toni Kroos.

However, the Frenchman — who won the Champions League for Madrid with a sensational volleyed winner in the 2002 final — insisted he still has a lot to learn as a coach.

“I have a lot to learn, the desire I have to learn is tremendous and I am convinced I am going to improve,” said Zidane.

“I have a lot to do to be a good and important coach in football.”

And Zidane rejected Ronaldo’s assertion that Atletico’s success in reaching a second Champions League final in three years is solely due to their defensive record.

“It will be a difficult game because we are playing against a team that doesn’t just defend well.

“Everyone talks about them defending well, but they are a complete team. They can also cause you problems playing with the ball.”

CDQ signed on to Tunji Balogun aka Tee Billz’s 323 Entertainment management group back in January 2016. In a new interview with Hip TV, CDQ confirms that he has now parted ways with his manager Teebillz – when he could no longer reach him. He said,
“About me and Teebillz, I mean, Me and Teebillz are still good. Still cool, we are family.. But I’m straight like that, I am real. I have not been able to talk to him for a very long time – since the incident that happened. I tried to message him but it wasn’t going through and everything. So i had to move on with my life.. Fayose, who was a staunch supporter of Sheriff's Chairmanship, said he had no option than to choose the party's interest over individual's.
Fayose: ‘Why I supported Ali Modu Sheriff’s removal,’ Governor explains

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has described the removal of the former Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff as a move to save the party.

Fayose, who was a staunch supporter of Sheriff’s Chairmanship, said he had no option than to choose the party’s interest over individual’s.

The PDP at its National Convention held in Port Harcout, Rivers State on Saturday, May 21, had dissolved Senator Sheriff-led National Working Committee (NWC) and appointed Senator Ahmed Makarfi as replacement.

According to the party, Sheriff’s leadership is the cause of the disintegration within the party, as too many forces were against him.
“We cannot sacrifice the party for any individual,” Fayose said.
The Governor urged Sheriff to accept the new development in good faith as it would help the party achieve electoral victory in 2019.
Fayose said: “I supported Senator Ali Modu Sheriff in good conscience. But when it became obvious that his continuous stay in office as the National Chairman will jeopardise the collective interest of the party, I had no option than to support his removal.
“To me, the general interest of the party overrides that of any individual and there is no how I can stand in support of any plan to sacrifice the party for any individual.
“Anyone whose ambition threatens the collective interest of the party should be removed to save the party and that’s exactly what we have done.
“I therefore urge Senator Ali Modu Sheriff to accept the dissolution of the NWC and appointment of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee in good faith and cooperate with other well-meaning members of the party to reposition it so as to achieve the much needed electoral victory in 2019.
“To Sheriff and other well-meaning members of the party, what should be important is the party and not the individual and no sacrifice should be too much for anyone to make for the party at this time.”
The Governor stated this in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, May 23, by his spokesman, Lere Olayinka.

148 killed in Syria in a deadly bomb explosion by ISIS
No fewer than 148 people were killed on Monday in bomb explosions in Jableh and Tartous on Syria’s Mediterranean coast on Monday in the government-controlled territory that hosts Russian military bases, Reuters quotes monitors and state media as saying.

It was reported that at least 200 persons were wounded in the attacks claimed by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria in the cities, saying it was targeting members of President Bashar al-Assad’s Alawite minority.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 148 people were killed in attacks by at least five suicide bombers and two devices planted in cars. State media had said 78 people had been killed in what is Assad’s coastal heartland.

The attacks were the first of their kind in Tartous, capital of Tartous province and home to a Russian naval facility, and in Jableh in Latakia province, near a Russian-operated air base.

Sky News reports that 73 people were killed in Jableh and another 48 died in Tartus further south, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said.

The attacks mark the latest development in a bloody six-year civil war, as the United Nations’ Syria envoy continues to attempt to restart peace talks.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman said the increase in militant attacks and bombings in Syria “once again demonstrates how fragile the situation in Syria is”.

Local television reports said that at least one suicide bomber targeted a busy bus station in Tartus, followed by a car laden with explosives minutes later.

In a separate attack, four explosions hit Jableh, which is south of Latakia city.

They included three rocket attacks and a suicide bomber at a city hospital, state media said.

Russia has a naval base in Tartus, and an air base in Latakia province. Insurgents are known to have a presence in rural Latakia.

Syrian cabinet minister Omran al Zoubi told Syrian television, “We will not be deterred … we will use everything we have to fight the terrorists.”

A one-sentence report by the ISIS-linked Aamaq news agency, which routinely carries the group’s news, claimed responsibility but gave no further details.

Seven feared dead in Anambra as students’ hostel collapsed
No fewer than seven persons were feared dead when a three-storey building collapsed at Nwagu village near the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, on Sunday night.

The victims, who were mostly masons, our correspondent gathered, used the ground floor of the building as a temporary abode.

The authorities of the polytechnic, however, could not confirm the number of casualties as of 6pm on Monday.

The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Obinna Onuchukwu, said the building located at the village adjacent to school, belonged to a private estate developer.

According to him, students of the polytechnic would have rented the building on its completion.

Onuchukwu also noted that students occupying adjacent buildings to the collapsed one had been evacuated from the area.

He added, “There is no record of collapsed structure in the polytechnic. That shows that this one isn’t ours. Our Rector, Prof. Godwin Onu, has visited the scene and immediately ordered the evacuation of students residing within the axis of the collapsed building.”

Meanwhile, Governor Willie Obiano, has said that the contractor and owner of the collapsed building will face prosecution.

Obiano, who visited the polytechnic for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation, on Monday, described the incident as sad.

Promising to institute a panel to probe the incident, the governor said the state already had an agency that would test the materials used for the construction of the building.

The governor, who sympathised with the students whose hostels had been shut because of the incident, said their safety was very important to the government.

He said, “The safety of students and every resident remain a major concern to my government, hence we will not hesitate to pull down these structures, if they fail the structural resistance test.”

Obiano ordered the immediate investigation into the cause of the collapse which occurred on Sunday evening after a torrential rainfall.

Onu, who was at the scene, explained that the project was being carried out by a private developer.

Onu commended Obiano for his visit to the scene, saying that it was a clear demonstration of his commitment towards the welfare of the citizens of the state.

Rescue workers with the aid of heavy duty equipment, were still at the site as of 4.30 pm on Monday evacuating the debris in search of trapped persons.

Among the rescue workers are personnel of the National Emergency Management Agency, the state counterpart, SEMA, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Police.
