Jose Mourinho has revealed he banished Memphis Depay from his first-team plans after the out-of-favour Manchester United forward sought a move away from Old Trafford.

Depay is set for a January departure after struggling to make an impact since his big-money arrival from PSV last season, managing just 20 minutes of playing time in the Premier League under Mourinho this term.

The 22-year-old Netherlands international has only appeared in eight matches in all competitions and was last seen in the United squad for the Europa League fixture against Feyenoord in November.

And United manager Mourinho explained the reason why Depay has been on the sidelines in 2016-17.

He was not playing last season. It was not that last season he was playing phenomenally and this season he is not playing at all. That’s not the situation,” Mourinho said. 

I have to say that in the past couple of months my decisions in relation to Memphis were influenced by the feelings and information that he would like to leave in January and that we were going to have a real offer that we would be willing to accept. That obviously influences me. 

If I know, if I have the feeling that a player is leaving – if I have to give chances and develop other players – then I go to [Jesse] Lingard, [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan, [Anthony] Martial, the players I know 100 per cent who are going to stay with us. It is a position where we have more options.”

According to an eye witness, this happened last night, during the Sound City MVP Awards at the Eko Hotel and suites in Lagos. Wizkid had arrived at the venue and was directed to sit close to a young lady who was probably a fan.

The lady was reportedly star struck when Wizkid sat beside her, as she suddenly kept a straight face on her phone. After few minutes she gathered the courage to take some shots of wizkid with her phone.

After few minutes, Wizkid whispered to one of the crewmen he arrived with and they had an exchange of seat as he made his guy sit close to the lady.

President Muhammadu Buhari has restated his resolve to oppose the devaluation of the naira and increase in fuel price.

According to TheCable, the president stated his resolve in Abuja on Friday night at the 2016 regimental dinner organised by the presidential brigade of guards.

The annual event is organised to mark the end of drilling year of the commission – and it is also an opportunity for officers to “mingle” with their commanders.‎

Buhari said that his stance against the devaluation of the naira and fuel price increase precipitated his overthrow as military head of state in 1985.

I have resisted the devaluation of the naira, increase of the petroleum products, among others,” he told the soldiers and officers. “When I was military head of state, I rejected similar advice by the IMF and World Bank to devalue the naira. 

I refused and gave my reasons and the next thing I knew I was removed and detained for three and a half years. As a civilian president, I will do my best and I’m telling you all these because you are part of the leadership of this great country and God willing we will remain great,” he added.

At present, the official exchange rate of the naira is N300/$1, while it is N495/$1 at the black market. It was officially N197/$1 when Buhari assumed office in May 2015.

The pump price of petrol was N86.50 and has increased to N145.
