The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) and Protest to Power Movement (PTPM) have condemned the Senate for rejecting Ibrahim Magu’s nomination as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In separate statements on Saturday the National Coordinator PTPM and Co-Convener Say No Campaign (SNC) Jaye Gaskia, and the Director of MURIC Professor Ishaq Akintola, said that the Senate’s action should not be accepted by Nigerians as it is self-serving and a disservice to the nation.
Akintola on his part said the Senate’s action is an act of vengeance and anti-people.
He said the decision is a declaration of hostilities against the anti-corruption crusade.

When the Executive was considering Magu for the position, after his appointment in Acting Capacity, and since his appointment if there was a damning security reason, why was the executive not availed of this reason until the Senate confirmation? Why is he not being recommended for investigation and prosecution?” Gaskia said.He also call for sanction of DSS officials if such a report existed and the Executive was not made aware of it before being allowed to be embarrassed by the Senate.
Akintola on his part said the Senate’s action is an act of vengeance and anti-people.

“Senate has decided to take its pound of flesh for Magu’s no nonsense stance in EFCC’s role in the war against corruption. But the Senate has been too clever by half. Nigerians are not stupid. They know why our lawmakers are baring their fangs,” Akintola said.DailyTrust
