The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso chapter has vowed not to resume work.

This declaration followed yesterday’s announcement by the school management.

In a statement by the Secretary, Dr Toyin Abegunrin, ASUU advised its members to ignore the resumption notice.

“Comrades, we believe that our members are fully informed and clear about the issues that led us into the crisis,” he said. “None of the issues has been addressed and the Governing Council that promised to get back to us after their meeting with the Union but up till now we haven’t gotten any response from them. 

“In the light of the above, our strike is still in full force. The national body of our Union is fully briefed on the state of Things in LAUTECH and is on the same page with us. Let us remain resolute, we shall overcome, Dare to struggle, dare to win.

Speaking, ASUU chairman, LAUTECH, Dr Biodun Olaniran, said “We are not concerned with the reopening of the varsity but as a union we are still on strike. In the Congress we had yesterday we all came to a conclusion that we would not resume any work because our needs are not addressed”.

“Our demands are; Earned academic allowances, Pension and gratuity, national health insurance, conditions of service, promotion arrears, budget monitoring committee, payment of salaries and arrears”, he said

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Lagos state, has arrested eight suspected internet fraudsters.

They were arrested following intelligence report about their alleged involvement in some criminal activities.

The suspects who were arrested around the Egbeda and Agege area of the state defrauded their victims of huge sums of money in different currencies while posing as Americans.

The suspects are: Samson Olujobi, 28 (a.k.a Mau Rice, Melinda Mcginnis); Abraham Sunday ( a.k.a. Raymond Dodson) 32; Gabriel Ayo ( a.k.a. Robert Mcintosh, Donald Great) 25; Omotayo Raphael (a.k.a. Michael Black) 25; Semiu Sunday Olawale (a.k.a. J. Cabtree) 23; Dafe Onosigho (a.k.a. Johna Kurz ) 27; Ewiolo Elvis (a.k.a. Morgan Moore), 32 and Usiaka Louis (a. k.a. Anthony Parker, David Smart, Alfred Norman) 22.

Evidences gotten from their email contain account user names and passwords of their victims who are mainly Americans.

The e-fraudsters also used their victims as money moles to transfer monies between countries.

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, is reportedly angry with Paul Pogba, for ignoring club advice, after injuring his hamstring.

Pogba pulled up after only 19 minutes, during the 3–0 win over Basel on Tuesday night in the Champions League.

The France midfielder is now set to miss a month of action with the issue, potentially missing key matches in both the league and Champions League.

According multiple reports, Mourinho is blaming the player himself for ignoring medical advice over what is a long-standing issue.

Pogba made 51 appearances last term, following his return to Manchester. But he missed a three-week spell in March with a hamstring issue and was given instructions by United’s medical staff, on how to strengthen the muscle to prevent potential flare-ups.

However, Pogba has instead been seeing and receiving treatment from a personal trainer, which club staff reckon has made the midfielder more vulnerable to injury.

About 30 persons have lost their lives in a fatal motor crash on the ever busy Lagos-Ibadan highway late Thursday night

According to Federal Road Safety Corps spokesman, Bisi Kazeem who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abuja, said the accident occurred at about 8pm at Km 95 around the Elebolo Quary Area on the Ibadan axis of the road.

According to him, 10 other persons were injured in the crash involving 40 persons and two Mazda buses.

“The crash occurred at a construction site, and it resulted from route and speed violations. “This has further underscored the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi’s advice to motorists to avoid night journeys, be careful around construction sites and drive within approved speed limits,” he said.

The FRSC spokesman said rescue operations by the FRSC officials, who arrived at the scene minutes after the incident, ended at 2:42am on Friday.

He disclosed that the corpses were deposited at Adeoyo Yemetu Hospital mortuary, Ibadan while injured persons were taken to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, and Adeoyo Yemetu Hospital for treatment.

President Muhammadu Buhari has just been announced to depart the country on Sunday, to attend the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA 72.

Buhari is expected to participate in the General Debate during which he will deliver the country’s National Statement.

The theme for this year’s Debate is: “Focusing on People: Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for All on a Sustainable Planet.”

A statement signed by the President’s Special Assistant says the President will join other world leaders at the, “welcoming reception to be hosted by the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, and also hold a bilateral meeting with the UN scribe.”

Buhari is also expected to hold a lunch meeting with his counterpart from the United States, President Donald Trump along with other world leaders.

The statement said during the General Assembly, Nigeria will participate in high level meetings on “Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse: Building Momentum for Change,” the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, a High Level Event organized by the African Union under its Theme of the Year: ‘Roadmap on the Demographic Dividend: from Commitment to Action,’ among others.

At the events, Buhari and members of his delegation will strive to project Nigeria as a strong moral force and responsible member of the international community.

The statement added,

“Nigeria’s commitment to global peace, security and development will also be reaffirmed and where necessary, the need for increased international cooperation in the fight against corruption.  

“Other priorities for the Nigerian delegation at UNGA 72 include strengthening human rights institutions; the rule of law; support for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as a result of terrorist acts and recent flooding, and mitigating the effects of Climate Change. 

“The Nigerian delegation will also canvass the support of UN member states for the Buhari Administration’s efforts towards combatting illicit financial flows in order to foster sustainable development.”

In the entourage of the President is the Governors of Zamfara, Ebonyi and Ondo States, and key cabinet ministers, the statement disclosed.

“President Buhari will transit through London on his way back to the country,” Adesina said.

The Governing council of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho has finally come to a decision to reopen the school on Friday, September 15, 2017 after months of total shutdown

This was contained in a statement by the University registrar, Jacob Agboola.

Mr. Agboola said the leadership of the university has “approved resumption of activities on the institution’s campuses with effect from Friday, September 15, 2017,” while “students are expected to return to school on Monday, September 25, 2017.”

However, Agboola made it clear that academic activities will not commence, until after the Independence day holiday on October 1.

“Council thanked the governors of Oyo and Osun states, Senator Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi and Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola respectively, for agreeing to support the university with necessary funds to enable the university to return to its normal work schedule and reinvigorate its latent capacities for accelerated and sustainable growth and development,” he said.

In conclusion, he said, “concerted efforts should, therefore, be geared towards ensuring that nothing is allowed to disrupt the normal work of the university again.”

LAUTECH had been on shutdown since June, as various workers’ unions had embarked on indefinite strikes, to press home demands for payment of about 10-month salary arrears.
