The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has ordered all Telecoms Operators in the country to give a 14-day grace for subscribers to exhaust their remaining data after the 30 days expiration period.

Ms. Hellen Obi, who represented the Executive Vice Chairman NCC, Professor Umar Danbata, stated this yesterday, in Minna, the Niger State capital at the Consumers Conversation Forum.

The event was organised by the NCC to sensitise consumers on the need to follow the right channel in resolving issues with their service providers.

“NCC has mandated all network providers to give their subscribers 14 days of grace after the 30 days expiration of their data if they still have data left and cannot recharge to get their data rolled over,” she stated.

Obi declared 2017 as NCC Telecom Consumer year as a result of the consumer’s importance to the growth and development of the telecom industry.

She added:

“The commission which is the independent regulatory authority for the telecommunications industry in Nigeria declared Year 2017 as NCC year of the telecom consumer in recognition of the importance of the consumer to the phenomenal growth and development in the telecoms sector.

A forty-year-old man, Yahaya Idris, has landed in prison for allegedly raping and impregnating his neighbour’s 15-year-old daughter.

Hajiya Falile Dikko of the Katsina State Senior Magistrates’ Court on Thursday directed that Idris should be remanded in the prison custody till November 6, 2017 when his case would come up for mention.

The prosecuting counsel for the police, Inspector Sani Ado, had told the court that Idris resided in the same house with the victim’s father, Lawal Abubakar, at Gawa Village in the Bindawa Local Government Area of the state where the offence was allegedly committed.

Ado said Abubakar reported the incident to the police on September 23, prompting Idris’ arrest.

The prosecutor said by deceiving and raping the victim, who ended up being impregnated, Idris “committed an offence contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code.’

The prosecutor however said investigation into the incident was in progress and requested for an adjournment.

The magistrate told Idris that the offence he was accused of was only triable at the high court, adding that he was only arraigned before the Magistrates’ Court “for cognisance purpose.”

Troops of 1 Division on Operation SHARAN DAJI deployed at Magami, Gusau LGA of Zamfara State on Tuesday 26th September responded to a distress call about armed bandits operating along Jengebe-Gusau road robbing hapless civilians.

Soldiers attached to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Akure, Ondo State, have arrested two men suspected to be dealers in marijuana.

The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the brigade, Captain Ojo Adelegan, said the suspects were arrested at the Owena military checkpoint.

According to him, the suspects were inside a black Toyota Corolla with number plate, Lagos KSF 492 AS, filled with 15 bags of marijuana when they were arrested.

He said: “As they (suspects) approached the checkpoint, the driver of the vehicle refused to stop; it took the effort of our men on sentry duty, which fired a round of ammunition, to stop the driver, who abandoned the car and ran into the bush.

“Our soldiers recovered 15 bags of Indian hemp (cannabis) and N71,354 cash from the car. The suspects said the Indian hemp was purchased at Ogbese town and was being moved to Lagos.”

Adelegan stated that the suspects and other items recovered had been handed over to the Ondo State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

A Nigerian man is on the run after he reportedly killed his pregnant girlfriend during a scuffle in Yaba area of Lagos state. In a report by Sun News, it was gathered that the suspect began showing up at the woman's apartment before the sad encounter that took her life.

The late Islamat Bolaji

The sudden interest by the man raised her suspicion as she couldn't understand what the suspect was looking for in her house. The victim's sixty-four–year-old grandmother, Mrs Gbemisola Agbola could not hold back tears over the sad death of her granddaughter.

The late Islamat Bolaji was beaten to death with her pregnancy by her estranged lover, one Okiki Arisekola, a commercial bus driver, during a scuffle on September 16. The incident happened at No. 50 Wright Street Adekunle, Yaba, Lagos, where the victim lived with her grandmother.

Mrs Agbola’s grief stemmed from the fact that she had lost Ismalat’s mother, Aishat at just exactly the same age, albeit in a different circumstance. Losing the one she had doted on in consolation was understandably a cruel stab.

The deceased’s father, Isiaka Bolaji, was also inconsolable. Islamat was his first daughter and was nursing a little child she already had with her killer.

Indeed, Saturday Sun learnt that it was a quarrel over the custody of the little baby, a girl named Kemi that led to the victim’s death. The suspect, Arisekola, said to be on the run, had reportedly been frequently visiting the baby and his mother, a development that aroused suspicion, due to the no love lost between the two lovers.

“He has not been visiting my daughter, but recently he just started coming and my daughter grew suspicious of his visits. On the fateful day, when he came, they were together at first, then he left, on his return they started quarreling nobody paid them attention, because that was how they always fought. But, this time, it led to a physical fight and Okiki beat my daughter into a coma. After some minutes that he had left, my daughter fell and became motionless. We rushed her to the hospital and it was there she died,” Bolaji recalled of the incident.

Her distraught mother-in law picked the thread of the story from there. Pointing to a spot on the floor, she motioned the reporter to come close and behold.

 “This is where I stood when I saw my granddaughter faint right before me just as her mother gave up the ghost,” she said. 

“She was just recovering from a fever attack. She had not done any work for close to a week. On that day, she decided to treat herself with some medication. She asked me to hold on to the child, an 11-month-old baby, I took the child and placed him on my lap. Not long after, Islamat’s sister, Kemi came in and asked me to give her the baby, I did and Kemi caressed the baby. She stepped out with her only to meet Okiki standing outside. He demanded to take the girl away and Kemi gave him the baby. But when Islamat saw Okiki with the child, she rushed to take the baby from him. They dragged the baby between them, while Kemi stood looking at them. Okiki tried to leave with the baby, but Islamat didn’t allow him, because she feared that he was going to use the child for rituals. It was a passerby that called my attention to Okiki merciless beating of my granddaughter, I almost had high blood pressure, I rushed out and called my granddaughter. As I was leading her back into the house, she fell and fainted. The first hospital we took her to didn’t have doctors on call, but before we could get to the health center she died. It was confirmed by the doctors there,” the grandmother said.

The suspect that killed his girlfriend

Mrs. Agbola could not confirm speculation that the deceased was pregnant before her death. She said: “There had been rumours about her being pregnant, but she said that she was not, so I didn’t ask her who the father was.”

Saturday Sun learnt that Arisekola had been pressurizing to take the child, but the family had refused, even as she denied responsibility for the pregnancy.

He was said to have been dating the victim since 2015 and the union produced the baby girl. However, he showed no move to marry her, apparently because he was still trying to find his feet. But he took responsibility for his daughter.

According to sources, the couple even broke up at a time, with Arisekola abandoning both mother and child, staying away for a long time. Things reportedly changed when he saw Islamat may have been pregnant again probably for another man. He then stepped up visits and demands to have his daughter back.

Efforts to reach the suspect in hiding proved abortive.

A bus reportedly rammed into a building yesterday at Iyase Street off Uselu Lagos Road Benin City in Edo state. ‎According to Omogiade Victoria‎, the driver of the bus lost control after the tyres were shot at by officials of the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The driver of the bus was being pursued by members of Nigerian Civil Defence since they couldn't get hold of the driver they shot at the the tyres of the bus and it lost its control & balance and rammed into this building. 

When they saw the accident they left and came back in fifteen minutes time and when they came they were fully armed they started using their guns to destroy the bus windscreen, they also shot sporadically into the air, assaulting any guy they see on the street. 

They left and came back again the third time shooting anyhow, arrested some carpenter's who were in their shop doing their legitimate business humiliated them ask them to pull their clothes and swim in mud water after that they took them away while they were leaving I gathered courage and snap this picture you are seeing from afar they sighted me from distance and came after me I ran into a nearby house they broke the door of the house and started checking for me from room to room but the Lord Almighty shield me from their assault and humiliation this evening.

Hundreds of residents of Owerri, the Imo state capital, were on Thursday, displaced as millions of naira worth of properties were damaged after a 12-hour non-stop rainfall caused massive flood.

Several residents of Owerri, the Imo State capital have been displaced after a downpour that lasted over 12 hours, and has left the city flooded, Channels TV reports.

Affected victims who placed SOS calls to our correspondent in Imo State, say the areas mostly affected where properties worth millions have been damaged include the Federal Housing Estate at Chukwuma Nwoha road, old CBN quarters at Egbu road as well as Federal Housing World Bank Estate.



Displaced victims have called on the state government to come to their aid.

Several states in the country have witnessed heavy rains and flooding following earlier warnings by relevant government agencies for some states to brace up for heavy rains this year.

However, this is the first major rain to be recorded in Imo state this year.
