Former Nigeria Oil Minister to Pay 8million seizure

Following charges of corruption against Diezani
Alison-Madueke, Nigeria’s former minister of
petroleum resources, a Westminster magistrate’s
court has on Monday, October 5, granted an
application for seizure of 27,000 GB pounds (over
eight million Naira).

The cash was seized under Section 295 of
Proceeds of Crime Act 2012, by granting the
application, which was filed by the UK’s National
Crime Agency. The money would be held in the
custody of the court until April 5, 2016.

There are conflicting reports regarding today’s
sitting. Premium Times said the former minister did
not appear today in court, but was represented by
her mother, Beatrice Agama, and another woman,
Melanie Spencer.
However, Sahara Reporters informed that Diezani
was in court at about 10am. The report of the ex-
minister’s presence at the hearing was also
confirmed by Sam Piranty, a journalist with the
BBC. Piranty, who was monitoring the event,
disclosed the information via his twitter handle.
There was speculation that a separate application
was filed against Mrs Agama for the seizure of an
undisclosed amount of money.

The money seized by the court was
recently found with the former oil minister, as the
National Crime Agency applied for the seizure
within 48 hours.

Meanwhile, a new investigation has revealed that
Diezani was apprehended in the UK with an
outrageous sum of money while trying to acquire a
massively expensive apartment at One Hyde Park.
Officials say she was nabbed with £13 billion (N3.9
trillion) in a huge real estate transaction.

It is recalled that on Friday, October 2, Diezani was
arrested alongside four other Nigerians by the
International Corruption Unit of the UK’s National
Crimes Agency. She was later granted bail after
been detained for several hours.
