World No1 Novak Djokovic held onto his Australian Open title by winning a re-run of the 2015 final against Andy Murray in three-straight sets.
The Serbian roared to a first-set lead with a 6-1 demolition of the Brit, before Murray fought back in the second.
Rally after rally ensued, as the World No2 brought the fight to Djokovic, but the man in blue held his serve to clinch the second.
In what was their 31st meeting on the professional stage, Murray was tasked with the challenge of fighting back from a two-set deficit. He had never achieved the feat before, and he couldn’t break the mould in Melbourne.
Djokovic quickly set the pace, breaking Murray’s opening serve in the decisive set in uncompromising fashion.
The Brit battled throughout, but Djokovic was coming into his element – finding shots which personified his billing as the world’s No1.
His sixth Australian Open crown was duly confirmed, extending his lead to 22 victories over Murray, winning with a third-set tiebreak.
