Louis van Gaal hopes to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford despite admitting the Real Madrid superstar might be “ungettable”.
Ronaldo left Manchester United in 2009 for a then world record fee of £80m and has since become the Spanish club’s all-time record goalscorer.
But there have always been suggestions that Ronaldo would one day be open to a return to Manchester to try and add to the three Premier League titles he won under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Ronaldo put in a below-par performance, along with most of his Real team-mates, in the 4-0 defeat by Barcelona at the Bernabeu on Saturday.
The Dutchman – quoted by several British Sunday newspapers – said of possible transfer activity: “We are looking at all players, not just Ronaldo. But these players are mostly ungettable.
“With Ronaldo, let’s wait and hope.
“Ronaldo plays on the wings and he is fast and scores goals. There is no trainer in the world that doesn’t like him.”
Can Manchester United convince Ronaldo to return to Old Trafford?
