DAILYPOST'S 10 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS MORNING...
1. President Muhammadu Buhari, Monday appointed Muhammad Abdallah as the new Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal. He said the appointment took effect from January 11 and will be for a period of five years.
2. The senate has described the Peoples Democratic Party’s call for the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari over the alleged missing budget as the biggest joke of the year. Senate Leader, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume who briefed newsmen in Abuja over the controversy surrounding the budget, said it was meaningless talking continuously on the 2016 when the Senate was already in control of the situation.
3. The home-based Super Eagles, on Monday showed their quality after defeating Niger Republic 4-1 in their opening 2016 African Nations Championship’s match. Elvis Chisom Chikatara scored a hat-trick, while Moses Okoro scored one goal.
4. A group has called for the probe of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
The group identified as Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC) in its petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, alleged that Wike was involved in corrupt practices while he was the Minister of State for Education. The petition also called on the commission to investigate Ahmed Mohammed, former Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education, UBEC.
5. President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mrs Maryam Uwais, wife of former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Muhammadu Uwais as his Special Adviser on Social Protection Plan. Mrs Uwais will now work from the office of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
6. The minority whip of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Barde, has said that through death penalty and amputation of limps, the prevailing corruption in the country can be tackled. He said it’s only when the penalty becomes grievous that people can see it as a serious offence.
7. Report has it that some armed men on Monday abducted the Director of Centre for Continuing Education, Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Port Harcourt, Professor M.E. Ogburie. He was reportedly abducted in Elele axis of the state.
8. Relatively, suspected sea robbers on Monday, attacked two speedboats along Bayelsa State waterways, abducting a pastor and 11 other passengers. Report claims that the robbers redirected the boats to an unknown destination.
9. Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, Massob, has reacted to a comment credited to former President, Olusegun Obasanjo where he said Biafra agitation was dead. MASSOB, through its Director of Information, Comrade Samuel Edeson, said Biafra would never die, accusing Obasanjo of trying severally in vain to destroy the pro-Biafra group in the past, especially during his time as the country’s president.
10. Reports have claimed that two people were killed on Monday after security men and pro-Biafra protesters clashed in Aba, the commercial town of Abia State during a protest of the group over continuous detention of one of their leaders, Nnamdi Kanu.
